About Ruidi Shang
Ruidi is an associate professor of Accountancy at Tilburg University, Netherlands. Before joining in Tilburg in 2017, Ruidi received her Ph.D. degree in Accounting from University of Melbourne, Australia, and her Bachelor degree in Commerce (with first-class honors) from the Australian National University. Ruidi is also a visiting scholar of Harvard Business School, from March to July, 2024.
Her research focuses on management accounting, and more particularly, how firms can achieve high performance through the design of formal and informal management controls. Ruidi’s recent research projects explore (1) the implications of corporate cultures on the design of formal controls (e.g., incentives), firm operations, and financial performance; (2) the potential trade-off between firm growth and the maintenance of corporate culture; and (3) how employees’ workgroup identity may influence their willingness to learn from others around them. Ruidi is also interested in the unintended consequences of management controls, such as misconduct. One of her recent work-in-progress investigates firms’ dysfunctional responses to increased employee welfare and labor costs.
